Your plants will arrive packed carefully in cardboard. Most veg plants will be bare-rooted, although a couple are supplied in bio-degradable pots (like carrots and parsnips) to protect their roots. Herb plants and fruit plants will arrive in bio-degradable pots. As soon as possible after your plants arrive, carefully unpack them all, and get them ready to plant following the instructions below.
Most plants will be carefully placed in labelled punnets, or wrapped in cardboard/paper. Some may look a little tired after their journey, particularly if their roots have become very dry, but this is usually nothing to worry about. They will soon bounce back after they've had a drink. If any have been badly damaged in transit, or if they haven't survived the journey, please get in contact with us so that we can arrange replacements or a refund.
When your plants arrive you will also find a copy of our growing guide in the box. Everything you need to know is in there!
- Try to unpack your box within 24 hours of the arrival of your garden.
- The roots may be dry, so give them all a good drink of water by standing the plants upright and submerging the roots for a few minutes in a container of clean water. We’d recommend doing this one set of plants at a time so that you don’t get the plants muddled up.
- Once the roots are sufficiently moist, stand the plants up in their punnet or in a shallow container (an old roasting pan is ideal!) – it is sensible to label them at this point so that you can easily identify the seedlings when you are ready to plant them.
- You can either plant them out now if your garden is ready and weather conditions are favourable, or if you need to wait a few days you can add a few handfuls of compost to cover the roots in the punnet and keep them on a windowsill or in a greenhouse.
