Plant 1.5m apart in fertile, neutral soil (a pH of 6.0-7.5 is ideal) adding plenty of organic compost/well-rotted manure.
Can be planted in pots, containers, beds, and borders
Best grown in full sun or partial shade.
Growing Tips
Keep the soil moist during the first year. In later years, water well on a weekly basis during prolonged dry spells.
Apply a mulch every winter.
After the first year, in winter, select 5-6 main stems (leaders) that are evenly spaced around the bush forming a wine glass shape. These will remain for the whole life of the bush. Remove any other shoots and cut back each leader to half its length.
In future winters, cut back the top-most shoot from each leader, removing half the previous season’s growth. Cut back any side shoots that have appeared on the leader to leave just one or two buds.
Harvesting
Fruits will ripen for harvesting in the summer in July through to August.
